We got Tuffy when he was 5 years old. Although we never used him in our
breeding program, he is the grandfather of Tori & Gracie, great-grandsire of
Tira, Cherry, Rhett, and the great-great-grandsire of all their pups. Tuffy in his
day he was the ultimate show dog. He loved to go to the shows, even if just to
watch, and would run to the front door whenever he thought we were getting
ready for a show.
Tuffy & Fern spent their retirement together with a wonderful lady, who has
doted on them, but says Tuffy was her best buddy. Many other people would
have given up onn him when he could no long get up and walk, but since he was in
no pain, she has made adjustments, and took wonderful care of him. He was her
"Pillow Prince." He was the King of her heart, and spent his days as a pampered
and much loved little champion.
We took great comfort in knowing they were together in the best possible place.
People who love older Pugs are the best!!!
We lost Red to a tragic accident . . .
Red was attacked and killed by an Australian Sheppard he lived with. PLEASE,
Don't ever think a bigger dog won't hurt a Pug!!!

Remembering Xena . . .
Like a shooting star, she flashed across the sky.
She enchanted us with her beauty & her spirit.
Then, in a blink of an eye, she was gone.
Leaving us with our grief & our memories.
The heavens are dark without you, darling Xena,
But still you dwell among the stars,
And in our hearts
Forever.

AM CH WINDWALKERS WARRIOR PRINCESS
Xena - Our little "Pool Shark"
. . . The day she went to sleep, and didn't wake up.
. . . I got a call from Mary, she was upset. I thought I'd comfort her, she told
me Xena was dead.
My mind flashed back to the call two years before. It was like a bad movie. It
couldn't be true. How could she be dead? Her ad for finishing her AKC
Championship had just come out in Pug Talk and I'd just seen it the day before.
Already folks were calling and telling me how much they liked her. This had to be a
mistake. Mary, tell me this is a mistake!
"No," she said, "It's not a mistake."
Our beautiful little Xena was dead. After a hard day playing pool shark, Xena
wagged her tail all the way to bed that night. In the morning, she was still
"sleeping" with her paws crossed and her chin resting peacefully on them.
The autopsy told us what happened, anuerism, but we'll never know why.
She wasn't ever sick, never knew pain; she is forever young, as she waits for us at
The Rainbow Bridge.
IF TEARS COULD BUILD A STAIRWAY
If tears could build a stairway, and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to Heaven and bring you back again.
No farewell words were spoken, No time to say "Goodbye." You were gone before I knew it, and only God knows why.
My heart still aches with sadness, and secret tears still flow. What it meant to love you- No one can ever know.
But now I know you want me to mourn for you no more; To remember all the happy times, life still has much in store.
Since you'll never be forgotten, I pledge to you today- A hollowed place within my heart is where you'll always stay.

Six Weeks Old & Wearing His Red Collar.
|
"Xena" winning one
of her five Majors!
Red was the Pug of my heart for so many reasons. He was just 2.75 oz's when he was
born, the smallest of seven pups. Although the smallest, he was strong and
determined from the minute he was born. He was the biggest pup in the litter by the
time they were six weeks old.
I showed Red in the Bred By Exhibitor class, exclusively, the year dogs finished
from Bred-By were invited to Westminster. I didn't take him. I just loved him. He
was so sweet, he didn't ever even put a tooth mark on his favorite plastic toy, which
Xena later chewed the tail off. He was my special little guy, who loved me,
entertained me, and gave his all.
Red was my best friend, my comfort, my pride. He loved everyone. He was staying at
a friend's house while we were remodeling ours. Her family adored him and looked
forward to a litter of his puppies with their girl.
One morning she had all the Pugs out to potty, and while she waited, Red, who'd been
off "watering" a bush by himself, ran back up to the rest of her Pugs to greet his
"girlfriend."
The Aussie apparently saw him as a threat to her little herd of Pugs, and leaped off
the porch, ran up to him, and threw him by the scruff of his neck across the yard. My
friend, screaming, ran to him. She scooped him up in her arms, while screaming and
crying out in disbelief.
Red looked into her eyes, as if to ask, "Why?" Then he sighed and passed away.
My friend then had to call me. It was like a bad joke I didn't understand. "What?
What do you mean? I don't understand? How can that be? NO!!! Don't say that!!! You
aren't telling me this! NO!!!!!!!!!!!
How could this be? He loved life so much!!! He LOVED everyone, so much!!! He loved
ME so much!!!
I had let him down somehow, and I couldn't even say goodbye. Little did I know I'd
get a similar phone call, on the same day, just two years later . . .
Xena loved the pool and made every day a pool party! She
started out on my deck with a Rubbermaid box of water . . .
I'd tell her she was part fish! The picture of her was taken
the day before she died, doing what she loved best!

Mary Jean Wenig, my "Pug Mom," went to meet her Pugs at The
Rainbow Bridge on October 28, 2007. I was previlleged to be at her
side, holding her hand when she passed, and I know there was one
heck of a Pug Party that night on the other side, as all her Pugs she'd
loved ran to greet her.
I cannot express in words what Jean's love and friendship meant to me. She
"adopted" me into her life, accepting me for who I was, and I became a
better person, and a better Pug breeder, for knowing her. Always there to
offer an ear, advice, when asked, and her wisdom, I cannot help but miss her
terribly.
My heart is forever broken, my life is forever changed, my spirit forever
bonded to the only person to ever call me, "Sweetheart."
Jean was completely dedicated to her Pugs. She loved to show them, usually
in the Bred By Exhibitor class, and she ALWAYS put the best interests of
her Pugs first. I was privileged enough to have purchased Sure Sweet
Mountain Breeze, aka: Tori, from the Wenigs. Tori was the first intact girl
they'd ever sold. Tori went on to win 11 Best In Show Brace wins with her
sister, CH. Fantasy's Sure Sweet Gracie, with Jean as their handler. She also
had one litter, sired by our Berry, that produced three champions, including
our Tira, who was in the PDCA's Top 20 for 2004.
Jean never tired of hearing how my Pugs did at the shows, and even though
she stopped breeding her girls herself, she shared them with those of us she
knew would do right by them, as a co-owner. One of these pups, CH Sure
Sweet Golden Delight, aka Jerry, finished his championship in California, the
day she passed. Her goal, while fighting her cancer, was to show one more
Pug, just one more time. She didn't get to accomplish her dream, but her
Pugs will continue her legacy with those of us she trusted to continue her line.
As a founding member of the Puget Sound Pug Dog Club, and a strong
advocate for the Bred By Exhibitor, we are previledged to offer a new
perpetual trophy and plaques in her memory at our club's Specialties for the
next 12 years. It is my hope that this trophy will encourage other Pug
breeders to show-off their pups they are proud of, as a legacy for what
Jean believed in.
Meanwhile, Jean's beloved husband of 59 years, continues on with the five
remaining Sure Sweet Pugs in their home, including Cami.
Cami's brother, Boo-Boo, and seven other Sure Sweet Pugs who had
previously passed and been cremated, including her first Pug, Honey, had
their ashes placed inside Jean's coffin, so she'd have them with her for her
eternal rest. I think she would have liked that a lot. Jean had her own ideas
about what was appropriate, and being laid to rest with eight of her
cherished Pugs somehow seemed not only fitting, but like something she'd
really appreciate.
Gone, but never far from my heart, Jean's legacy lives on in so many ways.
She and Roy helped found the Animal Protection League in their town, and
helped open the town's only (no-kill) shelter. Whether it was fostering a
rescue Pug, donating to Pug rescue, raising money to build a shelter, cooking
dinner for the veterans (she was one herself), taking in the lost and
abandoned two or four legged creatures, Jean always had enough love and a
sympathetic ear.
I can only hope to become half the genuine person she taught me to be.

You Will Be Remembered You will be remembered when flowers bloom in spring And in the summertime remembered In the fun that summer brings.
You will be remembered When fall brings leaves of gold In the wintertime, remembered, in the stories that are told
And you will be remembered, each day right from the start For the memories that we once shared Forever live within my heart

Maggie was our first show girl to win any points, and she did it by going Best of
Breed over Specials! She was also the first Pug we showed to an AKC
Championship title.
Maggie spent her "Golden Years" with Diana Hedstrom, Fantasy Pugs, "power
napping" and stalking Diana. She enjoyed life, especially her bed, up till the end.
Everyone who met Maggie at the shows usually remembered her. She was know
to sleep under my chair outside the ring, waking up right before they called her
number. In our setup at the shows she'd Woooooo-Woooooo to anyone she
thought should come play with her. Her all time favorite thing was a raw chicken
wing once in a while. She was an excellent Pug mom, who enjoyed her two pups
even more after they were weaned. She's Woooooo-Wooooooo at their pen until
I'd let her sleep with them.
Maggie, Diana & I will always cherish our memories of you silly, demanding,
snuggly, self. Without you there will be a big hole in both of our hearts, but I
see so much of you in your children and grandchildren.
Rest in eternal peace, until we see you again, sweet girl!

God saw that she was getting tired and a cure was not to be. So he put His arms around her and whispered, "Come with Me."
With tearful eyes we watched her suffer and saw her fade away.
Although we couldn't bare to lose her we could not bid her stay.
A golden heart stopped beating hard working hands laid to rest, God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best.

The following page is one of two placed in the July 2008 Stud Dog issue of Pug
Talk magazine by Diana, Julie & I, as a tribute to our beloved Rocky. Healing is a
process, a solitary journey, but all of us will walk the same path. ~Sandra
Rocky's time here was not finished. There was so much yet for him to do. He always
considered each day an adventure, and so much of his life will tragically not be lived.
PLEASE, keep your Pugs safe from harms way, and know that accidents can never be
completely avoided. LOVE your Pugs while you have them here with you. Their time
with us is a gift, never to be assumed or taken for granted. Unconditional love is far
too precious, and so seldom found, except in a four-legged friend. ~Sandra

What Is Dying?
"I am standing at the seashore. A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength and I stand and watch her until, at length, she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come down to mingle with each other. Then someone at my side says, "There, she's gone."
Gone where? Gone from my sight - that is all. She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side. And just as able to bear her load of living freight to the place of destination. Her diminished size is in me, not in her.
And, just at the moment when someone says "There, she is gone" there are other eyes watching her coming and other voices ready to take up the glad shout saying, "Here she comes!!"
That is dying.
