Tori was named by my husband after the first few days we had her home.
She was no breeze, he said, she was a tornado! She had  a way of driving
most people crazy, but not me. I knew all she wanted was me. She was
good as gold when she was closest to me, but she couldn't slow down long
enough for that to happen very often, except at night, when she slept on
my head.

We bred her one time, to Berry, and she never forgot him.  She had lived
with Roy & Jean most of her life, but had come back to me when Berry
was visiting that Fall. She remembered him. The day he died, she got sick.
She never recovered.  Sadly, one morning she let us know she was tired
and wanted to go, so we let her.

We miss you, sweet Tor-Tor, but now you're with "Momma Jean" and all
your friends, including Berr-Berr and Maggs. Rest in peace, until we're
all together again, you sweet silly girl.
I cannot express in words what Jean's love and friendship meant to me. She
"adopted" me into her life, accepting me for who I was, and I became a better
person, and a better Pug breeder, for knowing her. Always there to offer an
ear, advice, when asked, and her wisdom, I cannot help but miss her terribly.

My heart is forever broken, my life is forever changed, my spirit forever
bonded to the only person to call me "Sweetheart."

Jean was completely dedicated to her Pugs. She loved to show them, usually in
the Bred By Exhibitor class, and she ALWAYS put the best interests of her
Pugs first. I was privileged enough to have purchased Sure Sweet Mountain
Breeze, aka: Tori, from the Wenigs. Tori was the first intact girl they'd ever
sold. Tori went on to win 11 Best In Show Brace wins with her sister, Gracie,
with Jean as their handler. Tori had one litter, sired by our Berry, that
produced three champions, Rett, Cherry, and our Tira, who was in the PDCA's
Top 20 for 2004.

Jean never tired of hearing how my Pugs did at the shows, and even though she
stopped breeding her girls herself, she shared them as a co-owner. One of
these pups, co-bred by Roy, Jean, & I, Sure Sweet Golden Delight, a.k.a.:
Jerry, finished his championship in California, the day she passed.

Her goal, while fighting her cancer, was to show one more Pug, just one more
time. She didn't get to accomplish her dream, but her Pugs & their children will
continue her legacy.

Jean's beloved husband, Roy, continues on with his only Sure Sweet Pug, one
the three of us co-bred, Gracie's daughter, Hope. His daughter, Linda, will be
showing our Reign in the coming months. She hopes to continue the family legacy
she learned when she showed Sure Sweet Pugs as a Junior Handler.

Gone, but always "my sure sweet heart," Jean and her legacy lives on in so
many ways. She and Roy helped found the Animal Protection League in their
town, and helped build the town's only (no-kill) shelter.

Whether it was fostering a rescue Pug, donating to Pug rescue, raising money
to build a shelter, cooking dinner or baking cookies for the veterans (she was
one herself), taking in the lost and abandoned two, or four, legged creatures,
Jean always had enough love and a sympathetic ear.

I
Hope I'm always the genuine person she taught us all by example to be.

Our Memorials
This page is dedicated to those we've loved and lost, as well
as those Pugs, who have gone before us to a place called
The Rainbow Bridge.
What Is Dying?

"I am standing at the seashore. A ship at my side spreads her white sails to
the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of
beauty and strength and I stand and watch her until, at length, she hangs
like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come down to mingle
with each other.
Then someone at my side says, "There, she's gone."

Gone where? Gone from my sight - that is all. She is just as large in mast
and hull and spar as she was when she left my side. And just as able to bear
her load of living freight to the place of destination.
Her diminished size is in me, not in her.

And, just at the moment when someone says "There, she is gone" there are
other eyes watching her coming and other voices ready to take up the glad
shout saying, "Here she comes!!"

That is dying.
Mary "Jean" Wenig, Sure Sweet Pugs, my "Pug Mom," went to meet her
Pugs at
The Rainbow Bridge at 12:05 AM on October 28, 2007.  I was
privileged to be holding her hand when she passed. I know there was one heck
of a Pug Party on the other side, as all the Pugs she had loved ran to greet her.
~ JEAN ~
God saw that she was getting tired
and a cure was not to be.
So he put His arms around her
and whispered, "Come with Me."

With tearful eyes we watched her suffer
and saw her fade away.

Although we couldn't bare to lose her
we could not bid her stay.

A golden heart stopped beating
hard working hands laid to rest,
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best.
I took this picture of Jean & Cami
on our way to the PDCA Nationals in
Oakland California. Jean was so
proud of her beautiful Cami, and she
showed her in Best of Breed.

September, 1998. It was our first
Nationals, and I was proud to be her
roommate.

Cami joined Jean, after battling
Lymphoma, on May 3, 2011.

"Red"
AM CH WINDWALKER'S MIRAGE
8/21/99  -  5/19/03
Red was the Pug of my heart for so many reasons. He was just 2.75 oz's
when he was born, the smallest of seven pups. Although the smallest, he
was strong and determined from the minute he was born. He was the
biggest pup in the litter by the time they were six weeks old.

I showed Red in the Bred By Exhibitor class, exclusively, the year dogs
finished from Bred-By were invited to Westminster, but I didn't take him.
I loved him so much. He was so sweet, he didn't ever even put a tooth mark
on his favorite plastic toy, which Xena later chewed the tail off. He was my
special little guy, who loved me, entertained me, and gave his all.
IF TEARS COULD BUILD A STAIRWAY

If tears could build a stairway,
and memories a lane,
I'd walk right up to Heaven
and bring you back again.

No farewell words were spoken,
No time to say "Goodbye."
You were gone before I knew it,
and only God knows why.

My heart still aches with sadness,
and secret tears still flow.
What it meant to love you-
No one can ever know.

But now I know you want me
to mourn for you no more;
To remember all the happy times,
life still has much in store.

Since you'll never be forgotten,
I pledge to you today-
A hollowed place within my heart
is where you'll always stay.

Maggie was our first show girl to win any points, and she did it by going
Best of Breed over Specials! She was also the first Pug we showed to an
AKC Championship title.

Everyone who met Maggie at the shows usually remembered her. She was
know to sleep under my chair outside the ring, waking up right before
they called her number.

In our setup at the shows she'd Woooooo-Woooooo to anyone she thought
should come play with her. Her all time favorite thing was a raw chicken
wing once in a while. She was an excellent Pug mom, who enjoyed her two
pups even more after they were weaned. She's Woooooo-Wooooooo at
their pen until I'd let her sleep with them.

Maggie, I will always cherish my memories of your silly, demanding,
snuggly, self.  Without you there will be a big hole in both of our hearts,
but we see so much of you in your children, grandchildren and
great-grandchildren, including the one that just became an AM Champion.

Rest in eternal peace, until we see you again, sweet girl!
Like a shooting star, she flashed across the sky.
She enchanted us with her beauty & her spirit.

The heavens are dark without you, darling Xena,
But still you dwell among the stars,
And in our hearts,
Forever.

Xena  -  Our little "Pool Shark".
4/20/2003  -  5/19/2005
Xena loved the pool and made every day a pool party! She started out on my
deck with a Rubbermaid box of water . . . I'd tell her she was part fish! The
picture of her was taken the day before she died, doing what she loved best!
AM CH WINDWALKERS WARRIOR PRINCESS
You Will Be Remembered
You will be remembered when flowers bloom in spring
And in the summertime remembered
In the fun that summer brings.

You will be remembered
When fall brings leaves of gold
In the wintertime, remembered, in the stories that are told

And you will be remembered, each day right from the start
For the memories that we once shared
Forever live within my heart
CH O-DAY'S DANCING IN MOONLIGHT
4/03/97 - 3/29/08
We got Tuffy when he was 5 years old. Although we never used him in our
breeding program, he is the grandfather of Tori & Gracie,
great-grandsire of Tira, Cherry, Rhett, and the  great-great-grandsire
of all their pups. Tuffy in his day he was the ultimate show dog. He loved
to go to the shows, even if just to watch, and would run to the front door
whenever he thought we were getting ready for a show.

Tuffy and Fern went to spend their retirement with our dear friend,
Penny, who called Tuffy "The Pillow Prince."  He was the King of her heart,
and spent his days as a pampered and much loved little "Pillow Prince."

We took great comfort in knowing Fern & Tuffy were together in the
best possible place. Tuffy passed in his sleep, in the bed next to Penny. I
will always be grateful to Penny, for giving Tuffy and Fern a wonderful
retirement, full of love.

MOUNTAIN FERN OF WINDWALKER
Fern spent her golden years, after Jerri joined the Marines, living
the life of a pampered pillow princess and the other half of an old
married couple, in spite of them never having been "married" to each
other, until Tuffy's death.
Once Tuffy's passed, Fern had been slipping away. She seemed to
find no joy in life,  other than her bedtime "cookies," which she still
had insisted upon, even after her last dental appointment.

Although Fern had been joined at Penny's by her and Tuffy's
great-granddaughter, Cherry, she never seemed to recover from
the loss of her soul mate,  Tuffy.

Together again, Penny recently passed away and joined them both at
The Rainbow Bridge.
Berry was with us for half his life, then he went to live with Linda Spahr,
Perlin Pugs. He was the father of 3 champions from the one litter he
sired for me, and many more Canadian Champions after he went to Canada.

Besides being a great stud dog, Berry was the sweetest boy, who got
along with all the other boys, as long as they understood he was alpha.
The only dog to question that was his sire, Teddy, who was sure he was.

Berry was loved and adored by all who knew him, and will be greatly
missed by Linda, who loved him dearly. He was an old soul, who could melt
a brick with his eyes.

Rest In Peace, Berr-Berr, until we meet again!

AM/CAN CH WINDWALKER'S BISCOTTI D'ORO
I Stood By Your Bed

I stood by your bed last night; I came to have a peep.
I could see that you were crying, you found it hard to sleep.
I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear,
"It's me, I haven't left you, I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here."

I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea,
You were thinking of the many times your hands reached out to me.

I was with you at the shops today; your arms were getting sore.
I longed to take your parcels; I wish I could do more.

I was with you at my grave today; you tend it with such care.
I want to reassure you that I'm not lying there.

I walked with you towards the house, as you fumbled for your key.
I gently put my paw on you; I smiled and said "It's me."
You looked so very tired, and sank into a chair.
I tried so hard to let you know that I was standing there.
It's possible for me to be so near you every day.
To say to you with certainty, "I never went away."

You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew...
In the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you.

The day is almost over... I smile and watch you yawning
And say, "Goodnight, God bless, I'll see you in the morning."

And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide,
I'll rush across to greet you and we'll stand, side by side.
I have so many things to show you, there is so much for you to see.
Be patient, live your journey out... then come home to be with me.

~ RENATA ~
Renata Smigielska, Mira Canis Pugs , passed away on Friday,
September 16, 2011. She was 32 years old. Her passing was the
result of a serious illness, which she kept to herself and very few
close friends. We believed she would recover and it was a shock
when we learned she was gone.
This was the last known photo
taken of Renata while she was
visiting a friend, who
graciously shared the picture
with me.

I love it, because it shows her
smile. She loved the puppies,
and this was such a great shot
to show how she held her Pugs
so close to her heart.

The world is less bright
without your smile, dearest
Renata! We all miss you!!!
This picture, when she sent it to me, sent shivers down my spine. I
guess I knew somehow it was a glimpse into what was to come. I tried
to ignore the feeling, but when I saw this picture again it all came
picture of the shore, without thinking of my beautiful, warm, sweet
friend, who shared my passion for beautiful Pugs.  I'll never forget
you, my sister-daughter-friend. We shared too much of our hearts.
You only have to think and she’ll be there
So continue to love her, continue to share

All of your goals, all of your dreams
All your joy, all your tears
Remember her all of your years

She is gone in body, but her soul still remains
It’s the part you take with you for the rest of your days
