Before you bring a Pug into your life, there are some things to consider.
Our pets cannot care for themselves, they require assistance. Even if you bring an adult Pug/dog into your home, you will need to plan ahead. Someone will be responsible to feed and water the Pug/dog, groom it, and make sure it elimenates where it is expected to go, not on your carpet.
If you work outside the home, will you expect the Pug/dog to wait till you come home? You should consider your schedule before you decide on a puppy, or if an adult may be a better fit.
Where will your Pug/dog sleep? Will he/she need to be contained, or will it have the run of the house when unsupervised? What will you feed your new family member? How often? Will you do your own grooming, or take your Pug to a groomer? Do you know how to do toenails?
What kind of toys will you provide? Do you plan to brush the Pug's teeth?
These are questions you should consider asking the person you're getting your new Pug/dog from so you can be prepared before you bring him/her home.
At WindWalker Pugs we live in a mild often rainy climate. We have made our home comfortable for the Pugs by having central heating and air inside and commercial fans and hearters on our covered patios ouside.
Most people don't go to that extreme, so we teach all our puppies how to use a litter box with paper pellets when they first start walking. When they are six months old or so, we crate train them, so they can ride in the car and go to dog shows.
Puppies are lke toddlers. Do you need to have a safe area set up for your puppy when you're away? We have play pens for all of our Pugs to use when not supervised, both inside and outside.
How will you confine your Pug/dog outside, or in your car?
If you have other pets, how will you introduce your new Pug/dog?
